Sightlines: Filmmaking in the Academy conference

Added on by Kenta McGrath.

I’ll be presenting a preview screening of my feature film This Used to Be Here at this year’s Sightlines: Filmmaking in the Academy conference. It will be held at RMIT University and will be a “two-day event that will focus on the developing field of filmmaking as a form of academic research.”

All the information can be found here.

THIS USED TO BE HERE production in Tokyo

Added on by Kenta McGrath.

I'll be in Tokyo for the next couple of months filming some scenes for my next film, a feature-length, semi-autobiographical fiction/doc hybrid currently titled This Used To Be Here. I'll be contactable through the usual channels; if you're in Tokyo, say hi! A brief synopsis:

2007, a week or two before Christmas. Following a chance encounter, a filmmaker is asked a strange favour by the father of his childhood best friend: as a Christmas present, put his daughter Zoe into one of his films, along with a pair of antique suitcases he'd recently inherited. Declining the favour but obliged to come up with an alternative, the filmmaker instead offers to make a 'day in the life' documentary about Zoe, and creates a gift voucher which she can redeem whenever she's ready for the film to be made. Six years later, Zoe hasn't called. Out of curiosity, he revisits the family to follow up on the film that may or may not ever be made.

This is the film that I was working on when we were harassed by the Australian Federal Police, an incident I wrote about here. Keep an eye on the blog for production updates.
